The 27 August Great Ocean update gave BDO's sailors their biggest milestone in years: Chongsa Island, a new sea monster designed for veteran captains, and the first yellow-grade ship equipment in the game. If the sea is your content, this is the ceiling going up; if you have never launched a serious ship, here is the honest read.
What arrived
- Chongsa Island — a Land of the Morning Light village run by the Lantern Merchant Guild, with shipbuilding artisans, a level 3 warehouse, a Panokseon shipyard and a level 2 ship-parts workshop.
- Lyngbakr — a new Great Ocean sea monster that leads a pack of Lyngburks, built for experienced captains.
- Falasi and Cheongun — the first yellow-grade ship parts, for the Epheria Carrack and Panokseon respectively.
- A new sea route between Dallae Pier and Chongsa Island; the Saltwater Crocodile zone moved north of the island.
The Lyngbakr fight
Lyngbakr is not a DPS race. The encounter is designed around its escort pack — handle the Lyngburks and you open the real damage window on the big beast, which makes it a strategy fight for veteran captains rather than a stat check. Defeating it drops Lyngbakr's Horn, the key currency for yellow-grade gear materials, plus crystals and sea loot.

The yellow ship gear
Falasi equips only the Epheria Carrack (Advance, Balance, Volante, Valor) and is crafted at the Ilya ship-parts workshop; Cheongun equips only the Panokseon and is crafted at Chongsa Island's workshop. Both enhance with Sunset Rough Wave Black Stone. The stated design goal is that your existing blue-grade investments carry over naturally, so the upgrade is a continuation of your sailing career, not a reset.

The realistic take: yellow ship gear is a long, expensive project even for established captains, and Lyngbakr demands a geared ship and practice. If you already live on the ocean, this is your content. If you do not, the land-based guides on this site will pay your time better — and the sea will still be here when you are ready.
Rule of thumb: The Great Ocean update raises the ceiling for captains — it does not build you a ship. Sail if you sail; the rest of us stay on the shore.
