If you have ever seen players farming the same gray rocks in a loop and wondered how they make silver, this is the answer. Silver ore is the raw material that feeds BDO's most consistent life-skill silver loop: processing it into ingots, then handing those ingots to Imperial Cooking and Imperial Alchemy in exchange for boxed items that sell on the Central Market for far more than the ore itself.
What silver ore is and isn't
Silver ore is a Gathering drop mined with a pickaxe from mineral nodes in mid- and high-tier zones. It is not a finished product. New players often see the ore's market price (say, 4,000-7,000 silver per ore) and assume that is the value. It is not — that is the input cost. The real value comes from what you do with it after.
Two upgrade paths matter: refining the ore into silver ingots, then either selling the ingots directly (low-margin, fine for casual) or feeding them into Imperial Cooking / Alchemy for boxed goods (the actual profit). The second path is what makes silver ore worth the trip.
The full Imperial Cooking + Alchemy loop
- Gather silver ore in a mid-tier zone (any node rich in silver — Northern Heidel Quarry, the mining routes south of Calpheon, Mediah highlands). A full node round gives 8-12 ore.
- Process raw ore at a refinery near a major city. Each process gives 1-3 silver ingots per ore depending on processing mastery and trinket bonuses.
- Take the ingots to an Imperial Cooking or Alchemy NPC in any major city (Heidel, Calpheon, Valencia, Grana). Hand in batches for Imperial Crates.
- Sell the crates on the Central Market. Each box typically sells for 800k-1.5M silver depending on server market state.
- Repeat. The loop is fully AFK-capable if you set up a worker empire to feed ore, but even doing it manually on one alt returns real silver.
Why selling raw ore is the biggest mistake
Raw silver ore sells for 4,000-7,000 silver. A refined silver ingot sells for 12,000-18,000 silver. An Imperial Cooking box made with that ingot sells for 800,000-1,500,000 silver. The same ore is worth 1x, 3x, or 200x the value depending on which step you stop at. Selling the ore is leaving 95%+ of its value on the table.
This is also why you should ignore the in-game 'suggested price' tooltip and look at the actual box market. The processing and Imperial turn-in steps are where the silver is.
Minimum setup to actually profit
- Gathering level 30+ on the character doing the mining. Below 30 the node yield is too low to be worth the trip.
- Refinery access: any major city works, but Heidel is cheapest to reach for new players.
- Processing mastery: Artisan 5+ on refining is the breakpoint where you stop losing silver to failure costs.
- Trinket for processing: a +Processing EXP or +Processing Success trinket pays for itself within an hour of Imperial turn-ins.
Optional but high-leverage: a worker empire that auto-mines silver nodes and ships ingots to a city warehouse. This is the AFK angle — set it up once, collect silver passively. The 2026 worker rework and the Family Dispatch system (November) make this even easier than it was.
How to check your real silver/hr
Do the loop for one full hour, track how many ingots you produced and how many boxes you turned in, then sum the market sale value of those boxes. Subtract the repair cost on your pickaxe (a few thousand per hour) and the cost of any cooking/alchemy byproducts you used. That is your real silver/hr. Typical numbers in 2026: 50-90M silver per hour passive on a single alt, 150-250M per hour if you run multiple characters or have worker support.
If your number is below 30M, you are probably either under-geared for the zone you are mining, under-mastered for refining, or selling too early in the chain. Each of those has a clear fix.
Rule of thumb: the silver is in the box, not the ore. Never sell silver ore raw unless you genuinely need the cash that minute and have no time to process it.
